Lady Gaga conspiracy theories (I used up all my puns on the article)

Today’s post is just a few small things I’ve found regarding Lady Gaga over the last couple of days.

First off is this bizarre and unintentionally hilarious page which is all about how Lady Gaga is an Illuminati puppet (remember them from that shitty Tom Hanks sequel to the Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons?). Yeah, well they guy who wrote this page believes that Lady Gaga (along with other pop stars like Rihanna, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Taylor Swift) are being controlled by the Illuminati to brainwash people with occult symbolism. Funnily enough, he never explains quite why he thinks a pop star would want to put occult brainwashing messages in a video clip (and he never, ever explains how having occult symbolism in a video is meant to actually brainwash someone), I can see them wanting hidden messages in their stuff saying “Buy my shit!” (although I doubt it’s really effective, even if it’s possible) but this is not that at all.

Buy my shit!

Even more hilarious are the comments on the article, which seem to be written by and large by bible-bashing, redneck, fundamentalist Christians. They seem to be very clear on why there would be occult messages in video clips (“It’s Satan!! ZOMG! Trying to corrupt out children! The end times!”) but again they never explain what Lady Gaga is getting out of it. I mean, if you’re a world famous pop star with sold out shows around the world, making millions of dollars, the number one thing on your to-do list is converting everyone to Satanism right? Because thats in your interests isn’t it? Oh right, it isn’t. Ok, so the Christians are just batshit crazy then. Good, glad thats finally sorted. There’s several articles on that site about Lady Gaga, all of them retarded, and I even found a link in the comments to another site that claimed definitively that Lady Gaga was a witch. Like, they had the proof that she was flying around on a broomstick or something. I dunno, I didn’t bother reading it.

Lady Gaga - the early years

That said, after all my retard-bashing, it is interesting to notice that although the author of the article is mentally deficient, he has (in his own paranoid way) picked up on symbolism that Lady Gaga does employ during her performances. And it’s quite interesting as it’s stuff that I (and I’m guessing most people) wouldn’t have picked up on by watching it once (it’s not like I’m watching her video clips over and over, admiring her lack of clothes and suggestive dance moves or anything). One of the biggest things that was pointed out was her use of covering one eye, which can be interpreted any which way (like it just being stylistically a cool look). The author of the article suggests that she is giving the sign of the great seal (you know the pyramid with the eye in it) which is meant to be a symbol of the Illuminati.

Evil Incarnate

There’s other stuff there as well, and as I said, although I don’t agree with the conclusions drawn by the author (because, you know, he’s spewing crazy juice everywhere like a hobo that just drank a bottle of methylated spirits) there’s definitely more to her videos than dance moves and pop music, and if I had to hazard a guess, it would be that she employs strong symbolism that subconsciously one starts to recognize as her “look”, even though it’s hard to put your finger on what that look is. Having a design background, a lot of brands do the same thing whereby they create a lot of small details that when seen in context evoke a particular look or style that is associated with the brand, but is hard for a casual observer to put their finger on (and therefore creates more value in the eyes of the consumer because it’s that much harder to emulate, and that much more “authentic”). Think of Michael Jackson. He was more than just a pop singer and became a phenomenon because he defined himself as someone different from “the rest” by his look, his clothes (the glove, the white socks, etc), and especially his dance moves. He created iconic dance moves that either only he could do, or if someone else did do them, it was clear they were simply copying him. Of course not everyone is capable of creating incredible dance moves, so the next best thing is to create other “moves” that you get known for. In this case it’s kind of hard to make covering your eye a something that only you can do (anyone can do that, it’s just that no one thinks to), so the way to get around that is to do it subtly so that no one notices your doing it, but still subconciously recognise it as your style when it’s done.

Bitch stole my look!

Another good example is the G-Star brand (you knew I was gonna bring that one up didn’t you?), which is generally fairly recognizable due to it’s distinctive design and branding. I’ve seen other brands try and copy the “look”, Industrie being a major offender, and when you see it you realize that it is a copy of a look, but again, it’s hard to say why it’s a copy and not the original article, and it’s because it’s missing details that consciously you’re not even aware of. Everyone knows Lady Gaga has crazy cool outfits, but it’s also the way she acts, the things that she does that contibute to her image or “brand” as it were. So yeah, that’s my non crazy person interpretation of it.

just your regular jeans and a tshirt...

Sorry for going on and on, I got onto a bit of a roll there.

Anyway, to end on a less insane and more lighthearted note: pictures! (thats what this blog is all about anyway, not bloody essays!). Specifically, some more cool outfits as worn by Lady Gaga who is becoming more and more my favorite pop star.

^^ those are fucking monitors on her glasses…how freaking cool is that?

^^ this ones less hot, still awesome for being so out there though.

I think all those theories are bs. She is making the most of her time in the sun – go GaGa.

Well, I’m no right wing Christian batshit, and I agree with most of what you say there about up there about them, but still, gaga is definitely NOT my favourite performer (sorry, i don’t use the word artist in association with her):

GaGa Rocks!!! And lol, I’ve found that site sometime ago too, that guy is so fucking stupid, my God :))

I’ve also come up with a conspiracy theory involving Lady Gaga. Mine is far more believeable, though.

I kind of can’t wait to see what she does when she is tired of this image.

I think her evolution will be fun to watch.

I am a Christian but I love this blog!

BTW what did you think Taylor Swift was REALLY saying when she said “You belong with me?” I think she was recruiting for her cult:-)

What a waste of life to be crippled by fear. I see truth and beauty in Lady Gaga, music or otherwise.

WOW! Brilliant article… Though I always thought of Lady Gaga and the other stupid pop artistes as disguised porn models or something (In fact I’ve even written an article on that. Which will be coming soon in my sorry excuse of a blog.)… Never looked at it this way. But nice though! ^_^

I, myself, love Lady GaGa. I suppose my brother is to blame for it. If you look past her repetitive, unoriginal, lyrics and just see the clothes she wears and how far-out her videos are then you could definetly call her an artist. She is smart, artistic, and obviously has a huge imagination. I like her. She seems like a female Marilyn Manson to me. They should hook up.

holy shit youve pretty much summed her up exactly as I see her. it helps Im a massive MM fan too 🙂 They did actually work on a single remix of one of her songs, but it was shit, sadly. i agree with you about her music, except youve left off that as crap as her music is, its catchy as hell. i keep catching myself humming bad romance under my breath…

If you were given the chance to experience what it is like to be deaf (provivded you arent already) for a day, would you take it?

  13. 17 wow 12/04/2010 at 9:03 pm

U ppl are so brainwashed and retarded! Yes, retarded! Lady gaga is no illuminati but she does work under them. The illuminati (which is a dumb word to use) OWN and CONTROL the world we see ! Everything we known and been taught is fake. LOL Why do u think SO MANY ppl on the inside are murdered or suicide? Lady gaga was good before she sold out. Shes a fucking nutcase

    • 18 nrk03 13/04/2010 at 9:56 am

Im approving your comment on here cuz its fucking HILARIOUS 😀 tell me more about how retarded I am…I like a good laugh. While you’re at it, tell me more about how the Illuminati (or NWO or reptilian aliens or whoever the fuck it is) are controlling reality. Logically, I can see why it would be in a group’s interests to control the world, I just don’t see any proof of it, and the supposed proof from people like vigilant citizen just makes me want to distance myself from such a concept.

…I dont think one can point one singer and claim that a particular artist is possessed/working under the spell of a devil. I’m a Christian myself and a very dedicated one, I know the site the writer of the article is referring to and read his side of the story, I just think that the whole world is under the spell of the devil, everything so if i’m not going to listen to lady gaga’s music thinking that i’m protecting myself that would be in vain. I love her and I listen to her songs in fact Bad romance is my ringtone!!

This is one of the worst blog entries I have ever read, and I think you need to improve your reading comprehension before you go around bashing other articles. k Thanks.

    • 21 nrk03 01/07/2010 at 11:14 pm

Thanks for your opinion, I really appreciate you taking the time to leave your thoughts even if they are a jumbled and vague mess. Judging by your tone it sounds like you somehow took this article personally, may i ask what was it that struck a raw nerve? Are you a Christian perhaps? Are you a nut? Both (easier than you think)? Maybe next time you could work out a decent critique instead of making broad and useless claims (reading comprehension? I honestly don’t know what to make of that). But I’m probably being too hopeful, once a troll, always a troll.

PS are you a fan of lolcats? thats the only way I can reconcile the fact you said “k thanks” in a non ironic way.

  16. 22 bassbait 01/07/2010 at 6:01 am

Um… I don’t quite remember if I’ve ever been on this site, but my name is already in the “name” thing, and my email…

Lady Gaga is Satan, not because of some conspiracy, but because she makes music that is so bad, it’s evil. I can see why people would believe the conspiracy, but I don’t. See, the reason why they put illuminati symbolism in their videos is because it will penetrate the subconscious, much like Propaganda for the military. If there’s an illuminati, they would put these themes in there so the ignorant masses would stay stupid. That doesn’t limit to people who aren’t aware either. Maybe they throw in blatant occult references to distract idiots like Vigilant Citizen. I don’t know. But it would actually make a shred of sense that they put symbolism in, even though most idiots probably don’t know the symbolism.

Another example is in schools. “Poker Face” is played in high schools on a daily basis, and that song is about bisexuality and on a smaller level, promiscuity. It’s not like Gaga or the illuminati plans to mind control the entire high school population, but I can’t say that it’s not subliminally affecting kids, because who knows, somehow somebody might listen to this song and become a nymphomaniac. It’s all a stretch, but possibilities are interesting, and I prefer to leave no stone unturned.

Either way, Gaga is a horrible musician, and the “fashion” is just annoying. As art, there are designs of symmetry and asymmetry, and Gaga manages to have fashions which choose the very unappealing designs. I mean, some of those outfits were alright, but the asymmetrical ones made me want to puke, and asymmetry makes the attention go straight to the heavier element, whereas symmetry generally makes the focus in the middle, which is what any person wearing clothes would want, especially a performer, because the middle is where the stuff to look at on a person are located, and by that, you probably know what I mean…

    • 23 nrk03 01/07/2010 at 11:33 pm

“…because who knows, somehow somebody might listen to this song and become a nymphomaniac.” With such an abysmal understanding of human physiology you can’t be older than 15…right?

“Lady Gaga is Satan, not because of some conspiracy, but because she makes music that is so bad, it’s evil.” Is this a joke? I can’t tell if you’re being tongue in cheek or you’re actually trying to make a point. Please god let it be a joke.

I guess a thanks is in order for making an effort to try to make a point unlike many replies I get. I agree her music is pretty crap, but thats not why I appreciate her as an artist. She’s so much more than a pop singer.

Are you saying that because her costumes are asymmetrical you don’t like them? Did you know that asymmetry is one of the most important elements in graphic design, as well as a fundamental principle in many other areas of design, AND that no human face, no matter how beautiful is symmetrical? Finally, what is this “heavier element” you reference but don’t explain?

Hi , I must say, your article is interesting , yet, I think I should try find out more about the subject….
I’ll keep an eye on u’r blog.

  18. 26 bork 14/02/2011 at 9:01 pm

I think most of you are quite blinded by truth. Pop music has through time become worse and the situation for idiots aren’t getting better. The human mind is simpel and most of the consensus want’s to connect its soul to the masses for then to be safe – protect the masses and so on…

Pop music is all about women, sex, hate and money. The really shitty thing is that people actually loves it – what a tragedy. Allthough the illuminati conspiracy is a little exagerrated, there’s alot of truth behind it. Both Kanye West and Kate Parry have openly told in interviews that they’ve sold their soul to the devil. The devil = Music industry/hollywood. Illuminati isn’t about religion, its about the evil, selfishness and its likely a human experiment. Todays art is told to be a CIA experiment from the 50’s – i actually believe that, b’cause i find it so uggly and unaesthetic. Cubism isn’t humanly in naturey and therefor i find it strange that people hang this stupid shit on their walls at home. But further on….

The music industry makes bad music with simpel texts to reach the majority of the poeple – the stupid masses. I know i’ll only get disagreeingment b’cause my thought’s aren’t popular:))

Live like an idiot and be beforgotten. That’s a good life for you, but you’ll reach no eternity!

    • 27 nrk03 24/02/2011 at 1:58 pm

well thank you bjork for your “insight” and very “well” thought out arguments, but i have to rebut a few points with you.

first of all, you’ve made a lot of statements without any proof at all to back up your (wild) claims. katy perry and kanye have sold their soul? how about a link to that interview? CIA experiment from the 50’s? what about a link to some info on such a wild claim.

i dont agree or disagree with a point of view because of whether it’s popular or not, but because of whether it makes sense. and the idea that the CIA came up with an experiment in the 50’s that is still running today and somehow control a multibillion dollar, hundreds of thousands of people industry to do exactly what they want is so far fetched I can’t even see it with a telescope (if you get my drift).

you have to be simple minded to buy into bullshit conspiracy theories bjork.

  19. 28 Etta 04/05/2011 at 6:18 am

Katy Perry did make that statement in a televised interview -however, she was using it as a euphemism to describe going from the very wholesome/religious background she’d had growing up and what the professional music industry is like. She basically said she realized that getting into the music industry you had to be all in. That some aspects of it are completely unethical and harsh, but you have to contend with that side as well as the better aspects in order to survive it.

I have a different take on Lady Gaga -though not far removed from your views. That woman seriously considers every last thing that has to do with her public persona. She has built herself a cult of personality far bigger and more intricate than those before her (Madonna specifically). I think she’s aware of just about everything that gets said about her, right down to all the insane things conspiracy sites have to say. I think she adds some of it to her videos and performances just to add to her character and feed those theories. At the end of the day, whether you like her music or not, you talk about her. You wait to see the next thing she does. She makes fun of the very thing that she is, a popstar.

I think she’s sort of evil because she managed to take zombie boy, put him in a video, and now I’ve seen a whole collective of teenage girls online thinking he’s a hottie. I’m from the tattooed, weird, alternative art scene and even I think his devotion to being a living canvas of death and decay is pretty over the top. It’s visually stunning, but –To see him as a model and so adored totally amazes me. That’s just evil genius.

I’m a devoted reader of conspiracy sites, I use them in my writing. I found your entry here because I was looking for new tidbits on Miss Thang. You’ll never convince a conspiracy person to give up their views as they truly believe they can see behind the curtain where as everyone else is just blind. No intelligent argument will work either. I’ve tried. It’s a weird dog eating its tail sort of thing after awhile. Anyhoo, nice article.

the greatest trick the devil played on the world was convincing him that he’s not real. Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Rihanna are the perfect dolls that are used to convince us, because these artists are as visually artistic as they come. there’s a site – the vigilant that one can visit to proper understand the signs and symbols used by these artists… If your still not conviced then you need to ask yourself this question. what makes Lady Gaga so appealing and brilliant? if you can’t answer it, then you’ll know as well as many others do that she isn’t as great a artist as she is portrayed. that’s just what they want us to believe
