We are the observers

I’ve had the realisation that really, the only purpose we serve on this planet is to observe. Yes, we reproduce but ultimately only to continue to be able to observe. They say that by observing a situation you change it. What if really we existed because it was only by observing that our nature of reality continued to exist. In other words it’s only because we’re here on earth that it exists.

Thought experiment: imagine a place you’ve never been before, never heard of before, never thought about before. Take the edge of your know universe, and move a bit to the left. Ok, that place your now thinking of, for all you know, it doesn’t exist, you have no way of being there to observe it, or proving that by thinking of the edge of the universe it’s actually real. There’s that old saying “if a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one to hear it, does it make a sound?”, well I ask you, if you have no conception of a place that may or may not exist, there are no ways to show it does indeed exist (written accounts, video footage etc.) then really, does it actually exist?

What if everything we knew simply came into being as we observed it? Similar idea to quantum theory really, that nothing is set until you measure or observe it. Following this scientific thought, that means if no one was here to measure or observe our universe, it had no sentient life forms, it would exist only as potential and not as reality.

 

PS pro-mindfuck: what if only robots existed, ones that were not what we would consider intelligent, with the intelligence of pocket calculators, but they were set to measure things, would our universe still exist?

 

Inside the mind of someone on acid

So I’ve always been fascinated by what goes on in someones mind when they are under the influence of mind altering substances such as weed, LSD and mushrooms (the trippy drugs). Being a bit of a weed smoker, I’m used to how my perceptions change but I’m also aware that other peoples perceptions under the influence of weed can differ drastically from mine. As for acid and mushrooms, honestly, I’m a bit scared to try, so the idea of how those drugs affect peoples perspective has always been something of a mystery and a curiosity.

I did try this herbal version of acid once (it was supposed to contain LSA, the precursor to LSD) and even on a super low dosage I wound up not being able to handle it and having a horrible time. For those people who can handle such intensity I have nothing but admiration for being able to push the frontiers of mind exploration (god I must sound like the most massive hippy), but I don’t know that it’s for me.

Anyway, if you’re like me and are curious but don’t really want to actually do acid check out this article. Back in the day, the US government did tests with acid (to see how it worked and whether they could weaponize it) and this one particular test involved simply giving a dose to an artist, and getting him to draw while under the influence. Malice in wonderland – Some bad juju here

So I just stumbled across this video that is possibly the most disturbing thing I’ve seen in a while. When I watch it, I think of some bizarre Swedish/Norwegian manic depressive taking copious amounts of acid in the 80’s, reading Alice in Wonderland and producing this. Nightmares are made from it. I kind of suggest not watching this while on drugs.
